It’s Time for a Different Approach

There are many reasons why very smart children don’t succeed in a traditional school setting. Perhaps they are bored, feel disconnected from their teachers or peers, they may learn differently or need more help and individual attention than their school can provide. Whatever the reasons, at Balboa City School our small, structured classes are designed to help each student reach their academic, social and emotional potential by providing a supportive environment which embraces the uniqueness of each individual.

Our primary goal is to prepare our children to meet the challenges required of college-bound students. Many former students have been accepted to top universities including University of California at Berkeley, Wellesley College, University of California at Irvine, The University of San Diego and The University of California in San Diego to name a few, as well as many state and community colleges.

While we focus on core academic subjects, using research based methodologies and a low student to teacher ratio, we also recognize that embracing our students interests and passions creates an environment where students are excited to come to school each day. Programs such as Shakespeare in the Park, Lego Robotics, Chess, Video Production and Rocketry are just a few examples of programs designed to ignite a lifetime joy of learning.

Balboa City School is a fully accredited, K-12, international, private school located on the western edge of Balboa Park, near downtown San Diego. We are approved by the University of California system as a college preparatory high school. We are also cleared by the Department of Homeland Security to teach foreign students.
