Success is possible. All Balboa City School 2006 – 2007 seniors passed the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) and we anticipate the same results this year. Here are a few of our current and former student’s other accomplishments:
- Alyssa L. – (class of 1998) Was accepted to and has graduated from the University of HI.
- Courtney P. – (class of 1994) Was accepted to and graduated from a California State College.
- Danny D. - (class of 2004) Was accepted to an exclusive Airforce computer training school and also to Coleman College. He is working in the computer field.
- Josh F. - (class of 2000) Was accepted to Humboldt State University where he graduated with a major in Biology. His thesis was on Tuberculosis. He reports that he owes his college education and his success as a student to Balboa City School.
- Mark B. – (class of 2006) Mark worked at ACES computer repair as an intern while attending BCS and was accepted at Coleman College.
- Austin S. – (class of 2000) Was accepted to University of California, Santa Cruz. He is making films in San Francisco and his work was accepted in the San Francisco Underground Film Festival.
- Logan O. - (class of 1999) Was accepted to the San Francisco Academy of Art.
- Terence A. - (class of 1999) Was accepted to the San Francisco Academy of Art. He is working as an artist in San Francisco.
- Anna W. - (class of 1997) Was accepted to the University of San Francisco. She also graduated from massage school and studied to be an electrician. Currently she is working as an electrician.
- Chris E. - (class of 1999) Is working in the computer/internet field for a law firm in San Diego.
- Michael M. – (class of 2008) A current student who earned a scholarship to attend Community College classes. In addition to attending our Shakespeare in the Park Seminar classes, and reviewing mathematics for two hours every day, Michael has enrolled in City College and is studying college level music theory.
- Travis B. – (class of 2008) A current student who has been attending City and Mesa college where he has taken classes in American Sign Language, an Intermediate Algebra course, General Biology, Digital Photography and the Psychology of Learning. In addition, he was promoted to EAGLE SCOUT. He just earned his United States Sailing Instructor License. He will be an advanced sailing instructor at Fiesta Island this summer – working for the Boy Scouts of America.
- Christian C. - (class of 2009) A current sophomore at BCS. As a freshman he was on the varsity soccer team at Patrick Henry High School where he played forward and was a starter. He was the only freshman who was a starter on the team. He was just selected for competitive soccer, boys 19 and under . He plans on focusing on college admissions and scholarships for his college play.
- Chris C. - (class of 2000) Chris is the art director for Persius Media, San Diego CA, Persius specializes in Web, print and video production.
- Evan M. - (class of 2005) Attending Humboldt State College and majoring in creative writing.
- Scott C. - (class of 1999) Graduated from University of California at San Diego where he majored in Economics.
- Genevieve G. - (class of 2002) Has graduated with honors from California Polytechnic Institute at Pomona.
- Kevin M. - (class of 2005) On 6/12/06 came to visit us. He reports he just finished his freshman year San Francisco State University. First Semester he reports he was on the Dean’s List and second semester he got B’s. He also worked at a part time job both semesters. Working for the summer at Heritage Security as a “Mallcop” He is a cinema major and after this year is planning to transfer to UC Santa Cruz. He is playing water polo and baseball for intramural sports.
- Christian R. - (class of 1996) Graduated from University of California – San Diego. He is currently enrolled in a teaching credential program and works at Balboa City School.
- Tess B. – (class of 2001) Earned a National Merit Scholarship and graduated from Wellesley College. She studied Russian at UCSD while attending Balboa City School and spent junior year abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia. She is working in a law firm in Washington D.C. as a bilingual legal secretary.
- Aaron D. – (class of 2004) Earned a National Merit Scholarship. He was accepted in a post secondary technical college.
- Katrina A. - (class of 2003) Earned a full scholarship to college. She has graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in June, 2005 with an Associate Degree and a 3.7 GPA. She was one of 12 students invited to participate in a 3rd year International program which she graduated from in April, 2006. In this program the students went on a 2 week trip to Paris and Italy and another two week trip to Hong Kong. Her project was designing a line of boy’s jeans to be sold at Wal-Mart in 2007 for Wrangler Jeans. At least five of her designs were sampled and shown at her graduation ceremony. She is currently working for Guess full time in Los Angeles in the Jeans Department.
- Stash O. – (class of 2005) Earned scholarships from University of California (Riverside), UCSD and the University of San Diego which he chose to pursue, he is currently a freshmen. He achieved 98 and 99 percentile on his English and math college entrance exams during his senior year at Balboa City School.
- Lauren G. - (class of 2002) Graduates this year from Cal State – Monterey – with honors. She plans to enter the Peace Corps.
- Sean U. - (class of 2003) Was accepted to California State – Monterey. A screenplay he wrote while in high school was optioned by a local film maker.
- Dontrail C. – (class of 2003) While a student at Balboa City school came in first in California State Games in the running broad jump. He earned a full scholarship to Beuthune Cookman College in Florida.
- Bryan W. – (class of 1998) Earned a 4.0 average at City College and transferred to University of California at Berkeley with a scholarship. He is majoring in outdoor education.
- Michael C. - (class of 2005) Michael was a student at BCS from grades 8-11. He enrolled full time at La Jolla High School for the last part of his senior year. Has been accepted at the University of Arizona. He is chief of his fire cadet training program here in San Diego. In the summer of 2006 he will be finishing his Emergency Medical Training. Michael spent four years at Balboa School where he finished all his required classes. While attending Balboa City School he was on the varsity rowing team at Mission Bay High School and joined the Junior National Rowing Regatta.
- Corwin T. – (class of 2006) Corwin is licensed as a Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Billing and Coding Technician, ECG Technician, and Phlebotomist. He is attending college to be an X-Ray technician, and EMT specialist.
- Ian C. – (class of 2006) Has been accepted to Cal. State San Bernardino. He will major in computer science.
- Bryan S. – (class of 2006) Attends St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA on a full scholarship where he is an International Relations major and has started his second year as a non-contract Army ROTC cadet. Brian is currently a Fire Team Leader in his squad which puts him in charge of freshman cadets. While at BCS he won a Scholastic Publishers essay contest grand prize of $15,000 and prize money for a trip to New York. He is a member of the Society for Professional Journalists Chapter and winner for San Diego.
- Daniel B. - (class of 2006) Has been accepted to Dean College for the fall of 2006. He has earned a $15,000 scholarship.
- Billy W. - (class of 2006) Is planning to join the Police Cadets as soon as he is old enough. Meanwhile he has been accepted into the fourteen month training course with the Sheriff’s department in Miramar. Eventually he wants to join the FBI and have a career in federal law enforcement.
- Joe L. - (class of 2006) Is currently attending City College where he will earn an associate’s degree in business and eventually sit for his real estate license. He will double major and also earn a television, Radio Communications degree. Joe was offered an entry internship at Channel 4 (Padres Channel). He will be helping with lighting etc.
- Evan W. - (class of 2002) Is Working at CASE as a social skills tutor and assistant. He helps students on the Asperger/high functioning autism spectrum.
- Stefan O. - (class of 2008) Has been selected as a National Merit Semi-Finalist. He has been attending mathematics classes at UCSD, where he is among the top students, for the last three years. His average in Calculus B was 99%. He was also invited to compete in the National Math Olympiad. Stefan has been invited to apply for a full scholarship plus housing expenses to Cal. State Long Beach and the University of AZ.
- Travis B. - (class of 2008) Has been diligently attending Junior College classes for the past three years. He shall be able to matriculate to a four year college, right out of high school, as a College Junior.
- Rory M. - (class of 2012) Rory has worked at a teaching assistant in art camp this year. Rory is a teaching assistant to our visual consultant at BCS and diligently researches and then creates extraordinary artwork at BCS – see Rory’s work in our Student Work Samples on this Web site.
- John T. - (class of 2008) Is a certified open water diver and is close to earning his first aviation license. He is also, we think, an Eagle Scout. John is applying for the SEIKO Scuba Scholarship at the suggestion of his dive instructor who reports he is a “natural”. John has been recommended to apply for the Rolex scholarship for Scuba diving.
- Chloe W. - (class of 2012) Is a certified open water scuba diver. She is also the youngest certified rescue diver in San Diego. She is a member of Explorer Post 2010.
- David B. – (class of 2008) Is PADI Certified and has earned Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver Certification.
- Daniel F. - (class of 2007) Is an accomplished musician and composer. Hear a sampling of his music in our Student Work Samples on this Web site.
- Mary C. - (class of 2008) Is a reading tutor. She plans to be a special education teacher upon graduation from college.
- Majik G. - (class of 2008) A student at BCS for the past four years, is now living in Nevada and finishing his last year in high school where he made the varsity basketball team. He was a star basketball player at BCS.
- Jaynae R. - (class of 2007) Jaynae earned a tuition scholarship and books scholarship and will be attending community college while she completes her senior year at Balboa City School.
- Andrew H. - (class of 2009) Andrew is an accomplished musician and a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony. He plays five violin, mandolin, and viola among other instruments. - Ben H. - (class of 2009) Has earned a scholarship to attend San Diego Junior Theatre.
