Balboa City School (BCS) is an accredited, K-12 private school in San Diego offering college preparatory curriculum in small, structured classes. For new students, school rapidly becomes a looked forward to experience. Rules, expectations, and lessons are completely explained. Homework is well understood, and teachers strive to insure that parents are well informed about assignments due. We create positive learning experiences that encourage students to engage in curriculum and work towards the mastery of academic goals. Home life for the entire family often improves dramatically as BCS students learn to work independently.
BCS specializes in finding latent talent among its students. Many are gifted. Often students will excel in their area of interest but fail in other subjects. We provide a structured environment within which they may pursue their interests; often computers, music, art and writing. And we provide support and extra teaching in areas of weakness.
Our teachers are specially trained to recognize the needs of unique learners. It has been our experience that given the right motivation and environment, students can achieve academic success well beyond traditional expectations. All BCS students are expected to pass the California High School Exit Exam; work and apply to college. A large percentage of BCS students earn scholarships and distinguish themselves by winning scholastic and other awards.
Balboa City School seeks to effectively educate and support students who are bright or gifted but want or need more intellectual stimulation and progress than they are currently achieving. We help them explore avenues of creativity, and accomplishment, which they may never considered in relation to school. We nurture the giftedness of the individual. We focus on academics, outdoor education and for older students educational internships along with classroom learning. We also focus on specific school related problems and learning differences for each student. We understand that each person has a unique and preferred way of learning.
