Countless studies show that extracurricular activities benefit students’ academically, socially and emotionally. At Balboa City School, we have designed a range of activities that encourage students to interact with teachers, mentors and each other in positive and unique ways. For example, Balboa’s annual Pathfinder Ranch science and adventure camp for our lower division students is an overnight adventure that helps our younger students develop transition skills toward independence, teach science, develop social skills and build self-confidence.
Upper division students participate in the BCS work ability program. This program provides career assessments, pre-employment training, job placement assistance and vocational support and guidance and internships within the San Diego business community. This program is funded in large part through a “Workability I” grant provided by the California Department of Education.
